Welcome to Alsatian Homestead.  Castroville Texas and the surrounding area contains many unique Alsatian built homes and structures starting from the 1840’s.  The architecture and the people tell the story.

My journey began in 1977 when my father purchased an Alsatian Homestead. We refurbished the home in the 70’s on a budget staying frequently on weekends. While it is so close to San Antonio, when you are sitting on the front porch, it feels like you have stepped back in time a few hundred years.

As a teenager, my task at the Rohrbach home started with numbering beams and rocks for repairs to help the stone masons and carpenters.  It was an education in architecture and Alsatian culture from the perspective of the craftsman.

And it begins with the skilled craftsmen, Stone Masons, Painters, Blacksmiths and Carpenters. The trades used to make the Rohrbach House were brought to America with the cultural sensibility of the Alsatians.
